What length of shorts is most flattering?

A length that ends at or just above the knee, combined with a high waist, is the most flattering for most legs: it lengthens the thigh and keeps the proportions calm. Wide legs balance fuller hips; a tailored, slightly tapered short suits a straighter figure. Very short lengths rarely look as elegant.

Are the shorts see-through or do they crease badly?

Our bermudas and wide-leg shorts are mid-weight, so they are not see-through in normal light. Light summer fabrics can crease a little after sitting; hang them after wearing and the creases soften. Hang them after wearing and steam or iron slightly damp if you prefer a smoother finish.

What is a skort and when is it useful?

A skort is shorts with a wrap or panel at the front that looks like a skirt. You get the appearance of a skirt with the freedom of shorts, which is ideal for cycling, travelling, playing with children or windy days. Wear it as you would a short skirt.

Can shorts look smart enough for work or dinner?

Yes. Choose a tailored or paperbag short in a plain or checked fabric, pair it with a tucked blouse or fine knit and add a blazer. Loafers or a low block heel finish the look. Keep the length at the knee and the colours in one family for a polished result.
